Y Community Conversations – Building the Bridge to LBGTQIAA+ Liberation
Join a diverse panel of advocates and leaders to learn how, together, we can create equity and justice for the LGBTQIAA+ community.LGBTQIAA+ rights are human rights. Join community leaders and the YMCA of Greater Seattle to champion community. We’ll hear from and learn with Queer and Transgender Black, Indigenous, and people of color (QTBIPOC) communities, local LGBTQIAA+ owned business owners, leaders and grassroots organizers serving BIPOC communities, and others working to address the struggles, strides, and celebration of LGBTQIAA+ community members and their voices.
Speakers will share how they would imagine a world where LGBTQIAA+/QTBIPOC liberation is possible and share ideas that can move us toward liberation, while also identifying roadblocks that keep our communities from finding freedom. Please join panelists Kai Horton and Jiéyì Zhou from Gay City for this timely and crucial gathering.
This event will uplift and call attention to the diverse LGBTQIAA+ community. We will share space with one another as we march forward from points of great adversity and points of tremendous triumph. We recognize everyone’s experience is their own and hold this space where no one person’s voice shall outweigh the other. We recognize the roots of the Pride movement began with Black Transgender women, who paved the way for others to be able to have the conversations we are having today. We honor their legacy by challenging the status quo and centering conversations around struggles, strides, and celebration.
Y Community Conversations celebrate the rich fabric of our community, woven from diverse backgrounds and cultures, to learn together and advance equity and justice for all, every day, everywhere.
