Nov. 7 2024

This is a time of great anger, sadness, fear, and uncertainty for ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. We hate that our communities continue to be placed in a position where we have to show resilience in times of explicit racism, transphobia, ableism, genocide, and so much more. Although the outcome of this election is not a surprise to many of us, we understand that this marks a road of challenges, new and old, that we will be facing together. What has continued to grow our capacity for self-determination despite intentional systems of oppression has been our ability to work together as a community.

Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center will continue to show up for our communities by advocating for the needs of our most marginalized and providing intentional resources, healthcare options and a space for people to simply be. If you need a place to be in community, we will have puzzles, cider, and hot chocolate in our library until the end of the week, with more supports to come.

We will be closing our office this Saturday, Nov 9, so that staff may take time to tend to their needs and find a moment of rest. Taking care of ourselves is the best way that we can show care for one another. We will be reaching out to those who have already scheduled an appointment with us with this information and thanking them for their understanding of this need for rest.

We encourage you to take space to feel the emotions that are arising. This is not a time for normalcy and status quo. We will continue to strive and fight for the collective liberation of our communities. We’re in this together.

Sincerely,

Nakita Venus
