Capitol Hill PrideFest – Queer Youth Pride 2024

Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center is pleased to be hosting Queer Youth Pride in collaboration with Seattle PrideFest once again! Join us in the AMP: AIDS Memorial Pathway Plaza on Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 3-5pm for art, resources, community, and more.

We have an awesome selection of musicians, poets, and drag artists lined up for you, including YUELAN, meyre, Mateo Acuña, and Arlene Odd, hosted by our very own YAC member Naima!

Bios:
YUELAN 乐澜 (they/them) is a nonbinary Chinese-American singer-songwriter, composer and theatre artist. Their classical training and theatre background has inspired their indie dark pop style, alongside the drums of Josh Valdez and bass/guitar of Kyle Levien. They most recently released RALLY, a single denouncing the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and BE A MAN, the B side of aforementioned single that comments on the intersectionality between patriarchy and whiteness. They also work with theatre companies such as Yun Theatre and Pork Filled Productions as a composer and music director.

meyre is a solo indie folk artist and poet who’s learning something new everyday and hopes to share that with you 🙂

Mateo Acuña is a Peruvian-American gay and trans poet, artist, fantasy writer and librettist who splits his time between Seattle and Auburn, Washington. A GSBA scholar, former queer mentee and queer mentor at Seattle’s LGBTQ center, recipient of the Dwone Anderson-Young Youth Legacy Award, and a councilmember on the LGBTQ+ Youth Advisory Board for Washington State, they are a fierce advocate for queer and trans rights. At nineteen, he made his literary debut as the 2023-2024 Seattle Youth Poet Laureate and currently holds the three-year position of Auburn Poet Laureate. Dear Spanish is first book of poetry. They also write libretti (lyrics/stories for operas). He and composer Mina Pariseau’s twenty-minute chamber opera Blood Dawn of the Inti Sun, a retelling of the Indigenous Peruvian Legend of the Ayar Brothers, was commissioned and presented by Seattle Opera earlier this month. They are currently working on a book of poetry about the history of Auburn and a LGBTQ middle grade fantasy
mystery novel.

Arlene Odd is a sweet little Thing brand new to the drag scene. With her thrifted and hand sewn looks, this Princess of Peculiars tastes run all things bizarre. If you get the chance, ask her about The Chatterer!

+ hosted by our MC Naima, a recent graduate of Garfield High School, basketball player, and member of YAC (our Youth Advisory Council)!

This year we have a very special zine launch – our Rainbow Capitalism zine! It features artwork by four LGBTQ+ youth artists, @atticusxpx, @thatbeansprout_art, @raidonraiden, and @spookybokchoy. Pick one up as a memento and to spread the word about building meaningful Queer sober spaces and third places. You can also grab a physical copy of the Queer and Trans Coloring Book, pronoun pins, stickers, and more at our booth.

Queer Youth Pride is a unique event by youth, for youth. Learn more about all of the Center’s youth advocacy and programming at gaycity.org/Youth.
